So you would like to be a part of CANLOVE? Terrific! In fact the only way that we can create the artwork and programs we do is with help from those such as yourself.
In order to channel your raw desire to make a difference, try one of these:
So you have tons of cans sitting around, in your garage, closet, attic, some of them leaking, or rusting. Get those things out of there! Spraypaint is extremely toxic so don’t take any chances with them and send them our way. If you live in New York City, its easy, just take the cans to our drop off location. If you don’t then we can still accept them either by mail or by stork if thats your preffered method. Regrettably we can not pay for the cans, but we can tell you that UPS or FEDex “ground” are the best and way to ship cans.
CANLOVE is a program that is fundamentally run on volunteered time. Our team has a number of jobs to accomplish on any given day so having a helping hand is always appreciated. We have different departments that our team is devoted to, so choosing which direction you would like to volunteer is entirely up to you and your inherit abilities. Below are a few choices.
Spray Can Collection: Work with a team in organizing collection outings. Visiting designated graffiti areas, your job will be to collect and transport abandoned cans to one of our processing facilities.
Spray Can Processing: Spend some quality time with the beloved cans themselves in one of our processing facilities. Here you will work with other volunteers to safely break down the cans, extracting paint, making splatter paintings, as well as cutting and organizing the cans by color for future projects.
Become a Representative: As part of our effort to expand beyond our current reach, we need help in getting the word out. Do you have a flair for public relations? Or simply love to just chat people up? Thats great because sometimes the most help we can get is talking to people about what we do and forging strong partnerships with those who, like you, want to get involved. Being a CANLOVE representative is great because you can do it from anywhere, and we’ll send you all the materials to get you going.
Our program relies heavily on space, space to work on the art, and of course space to show the art. We are always on the look out for the right space. Sometimes what we do can get a little messy so its important that if you are interested in donating space to CANLOVE, then it will be something we can all be happy with.
Types of spaces we need:
Warehouse/Industrial Space: This would be for processing cans and creating artwork. We have a few types of power tools that make quite a bit of noise, so no neighbors is a big plus, or if they also like to get down like we do thats cool too.
Storage Space: Cool, Dry storage is perfect for storing cans that have yet to be cut. We dont mind how big or small, because frankly they aren’t going to stay for long. A garage, public storage unit, spare room all work great. Please no attics or your little brother’s bedroom closet.
Art Show Space: This of course is the most amazing gift to give. The best part of doing this type of work is showing it to the world. Thankfully what we do is scaleable so we can always work with a space, small or big. If you or anyone you know owns a gallery, we are always happy to chat about a possibility of collaboration. Also all you architects out there, or interior designers, CANLOVE looks great in model lofts, or other types of fantastic design centric atmospheres such hotel lobbies or modern restaurants.
Head Space: Seriously, this isn’t a joke. Its funny sometimes how often we are busy cutting, sawing, gluing or making art, and out of nowhere, someone who sees our work comes up with this crazy idea for the cans. If you like what you see here on this site, and it happens that you are riding the bus thinking about CANLOVE, coming up with a terrific new peice of work, TELL US!. We are just like you, artists who’s medium is spray paint. If you have the time to think about doing a project, maybe you have time to do more, and help make it. If not, then we appreciate the thought and we can try and one day execute your vision, hopefully with you in it.
Of course being a non-profit, we’ve taken into account the role that greenbacks play in our program. Truthfully we love money, it makes things easier, gives us the ability to rent space, equipment, pay people to help us like web designers, lawyers, and so on. What we are really trying to do though is not just ask for money, we’d instead like to earn it the old fashioned way, and give you something back for your support. Heres a few ways that you can donate to CANLOVE besides volunteering.
Buy Some Art: Of Course! Why didn’t I think of that?! Haha, but seriously all of the work you see here is for sale, unless its sold already. We try to give artists a real opportunity to make meaningful work and an avenue to sell it. The range of work is intended to give investors the ability to support the program in a way they are comfortable, and giving the artist the ability to price the work as they desire. The organization takes a small commission on all artworks sold through the site, the rest goes to the artist.
